Ode to a Dog

Your bed un-making skills are exceptional
It brings me great joy to see
Blankets all over the room, hanging off the bed, tangled in a hopeless pile.

I should leave you in my room with
Nothing to do all day more often.
Maybe if you would leave the cat food alone (Though I know it's cruel to leave it unguarded)

O, Dog!  O, Dog!  Indeed, it brings me great pleasure
To shake your excessive amounts of fur
Off the blankets, but still have to sleep
In a pile of your fuzz.

BIG things in store!

Sidekick here!  Just wanted to let you know that you haven't been forgotten and neither has the blog!  Vertigo, Clarissa, and I have been working on two really big projects that, along with my work and just taking time aside to spend with Mr. Squiggles and Deaf Cat, have really been eating up all my time.  I will get Vertigo to set some time aside and tell you all about them soon!

Tug Tug Tug, Tug Tug Tug.

When a house with two young dogs in it is quiet, something is wrong...

Once I finally realized that the place was eerily silent, I turned around from the book I had been reading.  These two guys usually play like human brothers-- one minute chasing each other around, then all of a sudden one gets irritated with the other, "Stop it!  STOP IT!  MOOOOOOMMMM, he's hitting me!" and a vocal argument breaks out between them.  When I turned around though, the two were playing cooperative tug-of-war.  No vocalizations, just calm back and forth pulling.  The only issue?  They were playing with the socks I had just taken off.
 The victims.

The culprits, looking very pleased with themselves.

In the end I decided to let them have at it, since I value good dog-on-dog socialization more than I value their good decision making on which of my belongings need to be destroyed and which don't!

Sometimes I think I'm being used

By the boy I need the love of the most

For my throwing arm
and ability to operate a can opener

What is it about walking on the beach

watching the dog sprint around in the waves
and pick up sticks
and dig holes

standing with my eyes closed
and my back to the water
and my toes in the sand

That makes me forget everything else?

To the owner of the bottomless pit of a stomach

Dear Dog,

Kindly do not ever again eat half a kilo of rat food washed down with half a roll of toilet paper and $150 of pain medication and antibiotics. I'll take you to the RSPCA. I swear I'll do it.

Thank You

Dear Vertigo,

Thank you for needing my love. For needing to be as close to me as physically possible. For needing me to throw your tennis ball 4 hours a day. For making me get up in the mornings to let you out when all I wanted to do was lie under my covers for the rest of life, and for adoring me even after I yell at you for no reason. Or when I yell at you for a reason.

I don't know what I would have done some days without you. You have managed to fill the void in my life currently unoccupied by best friends and Starbucks, sushi and golden retrievers, boys and flowers (okay, maybe not flowers. I still could use some flowers).

It's never a joke when I say, "I needed to be loved by something. I just filled that with a puppy instead of a child, because I'm not psychotic."

Or maybe I am psychotic. Who else would put up with playing so much fetch?

Love, Jacinta
